Greetings from an ICSF Scholar

Warm Greetings & Loving Namaste!

It is my great pleasure to write you about myself. I am very much proud to be an ICSF scholar to study B.Sc. Nursing in Nepal.

I come from Chitwan located in Bagmati province of Nepal. The name of the municipality is Rapti municipality. The presence of Rapti river is the beauty of this place. All kinds of fishes you can find here in the river. Ours is the flat land in nepali called Tarai. People from mountain and hilly regions are being migrated here for educational and businesses purposes.

I have parents and one younger brother. My father is an ordinary farmer with limited land. The earnings from the land are just enough to feed the family. I passed my School Leaving Certificate and +2 in science and technology from government higher secondary school named Shree Birendra Adarsha Higher Secondary School.

My family care and teaching

My family grew with the words of God. I was very excited to learn new things from the scriptures. Since I come from the Christian family background during my school life, I was very gentle and humble person. My family provided care and support in every step during the study years.

My parents are uneducated and illiterate still they knew the value of education, not rare in other families. When I was studying at tenth grade, my mother suffered from breast cancer and was very sick. Our family had to face critical economic situation. My father had to take loans to support our education. Still at this critical situation I devoted my time in study and secured first division in SLC final. I passed my higher secondary education in science from the same school.

I love to sing. I have joined a choir group. I have great interest in learning guitar as well. After I complete my courses, I will learn guitar. I am also interested in making friends.

I had a dream to become a Nurse. I knew it was impossible because of my family financial situation. I longed to be self-sufficient in future. When I heard about scholarship provision from MINORITY FOCUS in partnership with ICSF, a hope was raised within me. My father, though he was confronting the health situation of my mother, expressed his commitment to arrange the rest of the cost. With much difficulties I joined B. Sc. Nursing course at Shree Medical and Technical College at Bharatpur. During study some time I used to experience financial obstacles. The scholarship I have been receiving as an ICSF scholar has helped me a lot especially making payment of the tuition fees.

I passed first year with 75% scores and I was approved in the examination of second year. Now I started in third year, during this year I have to go outside the college for field experiences.

It is my great opportunity to get ICSF scholarship in order to achieve my dream and aim in life. I have great interest to work among unserved communities after the completion of my four-year courses in nursing. Since I have chosen the nursing career, I aim to become a leader in nursing services. Being a servant of God, I long to witness as light and salt in transforming my backward communities. The ICSF scholarship has value and importance in building my career in Nursing in Nepal.

I express my gratitude to ICSF, its financial partners and friends supporting ICSF great work of funding for scholarship to unprivileged students like me who cannot afford for medical education.

Sincerely Yours,
Ms.  Sushma Tamang
